How to use the comparison tool

The comparison tool has four views. Features is where you tick what you need: it opens on the 35 key features most organisations decide on, with a switch to all 537 and a search box that covers everything. Plans ranks the plans by fit and price, names what each one is missing, and lets you add plans to a comparison. Compare puts two to four plans side by side, your ticked features first, showing only the differences unless you untick that option. Full table (desktop only) is the complete matrix: every plan as a column, with Choose plans to add the Defender and Purview add-on suites, Microsoft 365 E7 or the Education plans, and Show only differences to hide rows where every selected plan is the same. Every feature links to Microsoft's own documentation.

The add-on columns (Defender Suite, Purview Suite and their Frontline, Business Premium and Education versions) list only what the add-on itself brings, so a ticked feature that sits in an add-on column needs the base plan plus the add-on.

Copy link gives you a URL that reopens the page with your ticks and settings, Save selection keeps it in your browser, and Download CSV exports the current view for a spreadsheet.

Guides to the plans

If you would rather read than tick, the Microsoft 365 licensing guide explains the plan families with a price table, and there are short comparisons of Business Premium vs Business Standard, Business Premium vs E3 and E3 vs E5, plus a page on what Business Premium costs.

About the prices

Prices are Microsoft's UK and US list prices per user a month on an annual commitment, paid yearly, excluding VAT, for the versions that include Teams. Monthly commitment costs about 5% more. Prices marked indicative were not on Microsoft's UK price pages when we checked and come from UK resellers; Education plans are priced through education partners. Volume agreements, charity pricing and promotions differ, so treat the figures as a guide and confirm with your licensing partner before you commit.

Not sure which plan is right?

Licensing is rarely as simple as the price list. A free assessment from a Microsoft 365 licensing specialist checks what you have today, where you are paying for features nobody uses, and which mix of plans and add-ons covers what you actually need. If you are also retiring on-premises servers, there is a separate free Azure migration assessment covering scope, a ballpark cost and a timeline.
